Is there a single dose option that is not the usual drug?

I cannot face a week of tablets that make me feel awful. Someone mentioned there are other single dose options.

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

There are two other drugs in the same family used as a single dose, and one of them has a much longer half life, which is the idea behind giving it once.

Availability varies a lot by country and one of them is considerably more expensive than the standard option, so what you can actually be offered depends on where you are.

Worth knowing why the week long course became the recommendation for women. A trial found the multi dose course roughly halved the proportion of women testing positive again at a one month follow up compared with a single large dose of the standard drug.

So the single dose of that particular drug is not equivalent. The alternatives are a different question.

Tell the clinic why you are asking. Nausea is a manageable problem and the answer might be a different drug, or it might be practical advice about how to take the one you have.
