HPV

Is there any treatment for the virus itself?

Everything on offer treats what the virus has done. Is there genuinely nothing that targets the virus?

Correct, and it is the part people find hardest. There is no antiviral treatment that clears HPV. Treatment addresses lesions and abnormal cells, and the immune system handles the rest or does not.

It is why prevention through vaccination and detection through screening carry the whole load.

Therapeutic vaccines aimed at existing infection and at precancerous lesions are an active research area, and some have looked promising in trials. Nothing is in routine use.

There is also a thriving market in supplements claiming to clear HPV. None of them have credible evidence and some of the sites selling them are frightening people deliberately.
