Pubic lice

Partner refuses treatment because he is not itching

He says if he had them he would know. I do not want to go through this twice.

Itching is an allergic response and it can take weeks to develop after first exposure. Plenty of people carry them for a while before any itch at all.

So no itch is not evidence of no lice, particularly early on.

The practical argument is simpler than the immunological one. If he is untreated and you continue as normal, you get them back, and then you are both doing this again in a fortnight.

If he will not be treated, he can at least be examined. A clinician finding nothing is a reasonable outcome. A partner declaring himself clear on the basis of feeling fine is not.
