Positive after eight years together and neither of us has strayed

I believe him and he believes me and yet here we are. I cannot make the timeline work and it is eating both of us.

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

This comes up here regularly and it is genuinely not always explicable as somebody lying. Asymptomatic infection can persist, and there is no test that dates when it was acquired.

It is also true that one of you could have been carrying it from before the relationship and never had a reason to be tested.

What I would resist is treating the lab result as evidence about the relationship, in either direction. It tells you an organism is present. It does not tell you when or from whom, and it cannot be made to.

Both get treated, both retest at three months, and try to put the archaeology down. I have watched this question destroy something that the infection itself would have taken a week to fix.
