Chlamydia

Pregnant with chlamydia and doxycycline is out

Found at a routine antenatal test. Told the usual treatment is not used in pregnancy. What happens instead, and is the alternative as good?

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

There is a well established alternative used in pregnancy and it is not a second rate improvisation. It is a different antibiotic with a long track record in this exact situation.

The reason they avoid the usual one is effects on the developing baby, not a question about how well it treats the infection.

A test of cure is generally recommended after treatment in pregnancy, which is not always the case outside it. So expect to be asked back, and do go.

Treated chlamydia in pregnancy is a managed situation. Untreated is the one associated with problems. You have found it at the point where it is most fixable.
