Should my son be vaccinated?

Vaccination was offered at school and my husband thinks it is only relevant for girls.

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

Programmes in a lot of countries are now gender neutral, and the reasoning is straightforward. HPV causes anal, penile and throat cancers in men, and throat cancers associated with HPV have been rising, particularly in men.

So it is not only about protecting future partners, though it does that too.

The other argument is timing. Vaccination works best before any exposure, which is why programmes target that age group rather than waiting until it is a personal decision.

Worth asking the school nurse or your doctor for the local information sheet. It answers the question with local data, which tends to land better than a forum post in a family argument.
