They want to start treatment the same day

Diagnosed this morning and they offered to start medication today. It feels too fast and I wanted time to think.

Same day start is now standard practice in many places, and it is based on evidence that earlier treatment leads to better outcomes and that delays often become long delays.

It is an offer rather than a demand. Asking for a few days to absorb the diagnosis is legitimate and clinicians will not refuse it.

What I would not do is let a few days become a few months. The reason the offer exists is that the gap between diagnosis and treatment is where people disappear.

Ask what you can start with and change later. Regimens are adjustable, and the decision today is not a permanent one.
