Trichomoniasis

Trich after menopause

Sixty two, diagnosed last week, and every piece of information I find seems to be written for women in their twenties.

It occurs across all ages and prevalence in older women is higher than most people assume. Treatment is the same.

What differs is that symptoms overlap heavily with genitourinary changes after menopause, so irritation and discharge get attributed to that and the infection is not looked for.

Which means it is often found late, if at all. You have actually been diagnosed, which puts you ahead of a lot of people in your position.

If symptoms do not fully resolve after treatment, ask about the menopausal changes as a separate issue. The two can coexist and treating one does not fix the other.
