What is expedited partner therapy?

Clinic mentioned they might be able to give me treatment to pass on to my partner without him coming in. That sounded unusual enough that I wanted to check I had understood.

You understood correctly. It is a recognised approach for certain bacterial infections where the partner is treated without a separate consultation, usually because getting them through the door is the bottleneck.

Whether it is available depends entirely on where you are. Some places do it routinely, some do it in limited circumstances, some not at all.

It is a fallback rather than the ideal. If your partner comes in himself he also gets tested for everything else, and gets treated for whatever else turns up. Treatment handed over at the door only covers the one thing.

Take it if the alternative is him not being treated. Push for him to attend if he realistically will.

Ask what to tell him about allergies before you hand anything over. That is the one part of this that genuinely matters and it is easy to forget in the moment.
