Chlamydia

Why did I not get a test of cure?

Everyone here seems to have had one. I was treated and sent away with nothing except a retest date months later. Is my clinic cutting corners?

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

Probably not. A test of cure is not routine for uncomplicated genital chlamydia in most guidelines, because cure rates are high and testing too early picks up dead organism and causes confusion.

It is recommended in specific situations: pregnancy, rectal infection, doubt about whether the course was completed, or symptoms that persist.

If you fall into one of those and were not offered one, that is worth a phone call. If you do not, what you got is the standard pathway rather than a lesser version.

The three month retest you were given is the one that catches the thing most likely to actually happen, which is reinfection. It is not a consolation prize.
