Genital warts

Will the vaccine stop them coming back?

Diagnosed with warts, never vaccinated. Is there any point getting the vaccine now, or has that ship sailed?

NoteMember experience, not medical advice. Symptoms overlap between infections and only a test can tell them apart.

Two separate benefits to separate. It will not clear what you already have, and the evidence on whether it prevents recurrence of existing warts is genuinely unsettled rather than positive.

What it can do is protect you against the types you have not yet encountered, including the high risk ones, and that is usually the stronger argument.

A large trial looked specifically at adding the vaccine to wart treatment and the recurrence benefit was not convincing. Worth knowing before somebody sells it to you on that basis.

Eligibility and cost vary enormously by country and by age. Ask the clinic rather than assuming you are too old, because the upper age limits have moved in several places.
