The exception is persistent symptoms. If anything is still going on after treatment, that is its own reason to be seen, regardless of what the routine schedule says.

The practical framing that helped me: testing is not something you do because you suspect something. It is maintenance, like a dental check. New partner, or a period of time has passed, so you go.

Do not stop taking it because you feel rough. Interrupted treatment is a much bigger problem than side effects, and if something genuinely is not tolerable there are alternatives to switch to.

Ring and say what is happening rather than deciding alone.

Ask about sites of exposure while you are there so the swabs match what you have actually done. That is the part that gets missed more than anything.
