Book the three month retest before you leave. Everyone means to arrange it later and a good share of the reinfection threads here start with someone who did not.

Worth being clear on what it does not do, because that is where people get caught out. It is aimed at bacterial infections. It does nothing for HIV, herpes or HPV.

So if HIV is the thing on your mind, the answer is PrEP, or PEP if something has already happened. Different tool for a different job.

Separately, most services will still want you back at three months, not to check the treatment worked but to check you have not picked it up again. Two different appointments for two different questions.

The part that follows from this and is easy to miss: a throat infection can be passed on, so your partners need testing at whichever sites apply to them, not just a urine sample.

When you tell them, say which site yours was found at. It changes what they should ask to be swabbed, and most people will not think to ask on their own for exactly the reason you did not.
